Presentation

The Ocean Race announces a new fully-crewed transatlantic race for the IMOCA class for the summer of 2026. The event will be a true celebration of the ocean and an inaugural initiative in support of its protection, as well as a showcase for high-level sport, the teams, and the sailors who compete.

The event will include mixed crews as well as an extensive oceanography program while the teams will sail between two iconic cities.

The Ocean Race Atlantic will connect the American metropolis of New York with the European capital of cool, the Catalan city of Barcelona. It will be the first point-to-point race in over 50 years of The Ocean Race history.

This new event in 2026 will follow The Ocean Race Europe, which will start from Kiel, Germany, in 2025 and precede the next edition of the round-the-world race departing from Alicante, Spain, in 2027.

This transatlantic event will showcase the flying foiling boats of the IMOCA class in their fully-crewed configuration. For the first time, the four-person crew will consist equally of two women and two men.

The sailors will participate in an extensive oceanography program throughout the race, collecting essential oceanic data to help scientists study the impact of climate change on the ocean. This program will also include the involvement of schools and nautical academies to promote ocean knowledge and sailing among children and young people.
