Imagine has had a storied career within the annals of the IMOCA class and the Vendée Globe. Built in Italy in 2005 for French Mediterranean skipper Kito de Pavant, the boat, a close sister ship to MACSF (ex-Safran), was the first design collaboration by VPLP and Guillaume Verdier as these naval architects moved into a world hitherto dominated by other yacht design houses. It set the standard for modern design and structural arrangement and has been competing with distinction ever since.

The boat’s history with the Vendée Globe was initially chequered in that its first attempt in 2008 ended prematurely with a dismasting just 24 hours into the race. Four years later in 2012 the boat was run down by a fishing boat a few days after the start and again had to retire. Four years later in 2016, in the hands of Thomas Ruyant the boat was in seventh place at the half way stage when structural failure forced the boat into New Zealand. Here it was rebuilt and eventually sailed non-stop and singlehanded back to Europe by Irish Vendée Globe skipper Enda O’Coineen arriving on Easter Sunday 2018 in Les Sables d’Olonne.

Four years later in 2020 in the hands of Maxime Sorel the boat finished its first Vendée Globe, in 10th position, finally demonstrating its competitiveness and versatility. Since that time it has been in the hands of Conrad Coleman who is currently competing in the Vendée Globe and is likely to finish mid-fleet with what is now a 20-year old boat. Over the years the boat has always been refitted and upgraded to maintain its position within the constantly evolving IMOCA fleet. It remains one of the quickest daggerboard (non-foiling) IMOCA 60s on the market, ideal for competitive fully-crewed sailing in the European IMOCA circuit and amongst the first choices for a smaller team to compete on the IMOCA circuit and earn selection for the 2028 Vendée Globe.

French flagged, based in Lorient this boat enjoyed an extensive refit and upgrade package in 2024, enhancing dramatically its value and modernity and relevance in the context of completing the 2024-2025 Vendée Globe and the races beyond.
