The Ocean Race announces a new fully-crewed transatlantic race for the IMOCA Class for the summer of 2026. The event will be a true celebration of the ocean and an inaugural initiative in support of its protection, as well as a showcase for high-level sport, the teams, and the sailors who compete.
The Ocean Race Atlantic will connect the American metropolis of New York to the European capital of "cool," the Catalan city of Barcelona. This will be the first race of its kind, from port to port, in more than 50 years of The Ocean Race history.
This new transatlantic race in 2026 will follow The Ocean Race Europe, which will depart from Kiel (Germany) in August 2025, and precede the next around-the-world race, starting from Alicante, Spain, in January 2027.
The event will showcase the flying foiling boats of the IMOCA Class, sailed in a crewed configuration. For the first time, gender parity will be ensured, with two women and two men on board.
"The Ocean Race Atlantic is a fantastic addition to our sporting calendar and a new opportunity to develop our scientific and ocean awareness activities. Personally, I am particularly proud that we are continuing to push the boundaries of diversity, reaching full gender parity within the crews. This creates a new opportunity for world-class female sailors to excel in the IMOCA Class, on a challenging and exciting course," said Richard Brisius, President of The Ocean Race.
