Profile

Cador of the Mini class, with his victory in the 2019 edition of the Mini Transat, Ambrogio Beccaria alias Bogi is only just climbing the Class40 podiums with his boat launched in 2022. He enters the IMOCA Class by taking part in Leg 7 of The Ocean Race on Holcim-PRB.

Born in Milan, Ambrogio has a degree in nautical engineering. He has been sailing since the age of 14: as a youngster, he took sailing lessons in Sardinia, then moved on to Laser 4000 racing. He has taken part in a number of offshore regattas in the Mediterranean, but it was in 2013 that he sailed a Mini 6.50 for the first time. Having already made a name for himself in the 2016 season and the 2017 Mini Transat, Bogi bought a Pogo3, Geomag, with which, after another extraordinary season, in 2019 he became the first Italian to win the Mini Transat.

Just after launching his Class40 in the colours of the Italian brand Pirelli, he created a surprise by winning the silver medal in the Route du Rhum 2022, behind Yoann Richomme, after a fierce battle all the way to the West Indies. He took second place in the Caribean 600 and the crewed Atlantic Challenge, again on the same boat.

Having just won the CIC Normandy Channel in June 2023, with Kevin Bloch, Ambrogio is now on board Holcim-PRB for the very last leg of The Ocean Race, when the Swiss-flagged crew is just 2 points behind the leader 11th Hour Racing Team in the overall rankings.

In 2024, the Italian announces his own IMOCA project, sponsored by Mapei. The Allagrande Mapei Racing team will collaborate for six months with TR Racing, Thomas Ruyant's team. The French skipper will accompany Ambrogio as co-skipper and mentor for The Ocean Race Europe and the Transat Café l'Or, two races in which they will participate aboard the IMOCA with which Thomas has just finished the Vendée Globe.
