The last qualifying race for the Vendée Globe, this event is a real dress rehearsal for the IMOCA boats before the round the world race which starts six months later from the Vendée town.
This race is the last meeting for the skippers before the Vendée Globe. The 3,100 mile (5,741 km) course takes the sailors on a single-handed transatlantic qualifying race from Manhattan.
This race has real stakes as it is a qualifier for the Vendée Globe and we will have to wait until the IMOCA boats cross the finish line in Les Sables d'Olonne to know the final list of starters for the 10th edition of the round the world race.
In 2016, the New York-Vendée-Les Sables d'Olonne Transat was won by Jérémie Beyou (Maître CoQ) who set the first reference time on the course of 9 days, 16 hours, 57 minutes and 49 seconds.
The start of the next edition of this solo transatlantic race will be on 29 May 2024 from the United States.
